In cooperation with the Confucius Institute of Ateneo de Manila University, the Philippine Academy of Acupuncture, and the Philippine Association for Chinese Studies held the second installment of the webinar series on “Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) themed “Traditional Medicine in the Management of COVID-19” on 17 October 2020. The organizers invited two speakers to talk about the role of traditional medicine in preventing and overcoming COVID-19 infections.
Dr. Jaime Z. Galvez Tan, MD, MPH,CMA, former Secretary of the Philippine Department of Health and currently Chairman of Health Futures Foundation, Inc., an integrative medicine practitioner and holistic health and wellness advocate, discussed “Filipino Herbal Medicine and COVID-19”. He introduced several fruits and vegetables with medicinal properties, and its advantages in preventing and controlling COVID -19. His talk explains the integration and promotion of Philippine Traditional Medicine and Chinese Traditional Medicine in the Philippines.
The next speaker, Dr. Arnusharief Hassiman, OMD, is currently taking Master in Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Qigong Science at the Shanghai University of Traditional Medicine. He is Chief Oriental Medicine Doctor at The House Zhenjiu and a Scientific Researcher at Qigong Research Institute in Shanghai, China. His lecture is focused on “Acupuncture and Moxibustion: Its Benefits for the Rehabilitation of SARS-COV2 Patients.” He shared his experiences in fighting COVID-19 and other illnesses such as cancer through Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Around 140 participants attended the webinar via zoom with the live Facebook broadcast having around 200 views and counting.
The next installment of the TCM webinar series will be announced in November, with the theme “Diet Therapy and Health.”
